Nepal PM Oli Removes Deputy PM Ishwar Pokhrel From Cabinet |
Nepal PM KP Sharma Oli has removed Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Ishwar Pokharel from Cabinet. Oli on Wednesday has reshuffled cabinet this move came after Nepal's effort to reset ties with its neighbour India.
Over a period of time defence minister, Ishwar Pokhrel had been one of India's critics in PM Oil's cabinet. Because of his continues dialogue on India, Nepal and India relationship had fractured a lot.
In May this year when General Naravane had hinted at China's role in Nepal's shrill reaction to an 80-Km road to Lipulekh built for pilgrims to Kailash Mansarovar in Tibet, Ishwar Pokhrel had sought to provoke Gurkha soldiers who have been an integral part of the Indian Army for decades.
At that time Ishwar Pokhrel had said that Gen Naravane's Comment had "hurt the sentiments of the Nepali Gurkha army personnel who ley down their lives to protect India". Ishwar Pokhrel had even told that Gurkha soldiers in the Indian army wouldn't respect their superiors after Gen Naravane's comment. Ishwar Pokhrel was giving very provocative statement to hurt every Indian sentiment.
Pokhrel had recently also opposed General Naravane's November 3 visit to Nepal. He wanted India to first sit across the table to discuss the boundary dispute between the two countries.
Ishwar Pokharel in recent had said General Purna Chandra Thapa to comment on Lipulekh row. General Purna Chandra Thapa had also refused to comment on the Lipulekh row and said: "Army will not do politics".
Nepal Internal report says, General Thapa has also been upset about the minister dragging the armed forces in a row over the purchase of medical equipment to fight Covid-19.
This decision has come during Naravane's visit on November 3 visit. During the visit, Naravane would be conferred the honorary rank of general of the Nepali Army by Nepal's President Vidya Devi Bhandari.
