Reconstructing and reorganizing the Indian Army into 5 military theatre commands by the year 2022. Indian Army Re-Defining the 'Area Of Operation' instead of 'Role Of Operation'.

The task of reorganizing the three services Army, Airforce, and Navy under the theatre command has begun - to Counter China - 'China-specific Northern Command' and to counter Pakistan - 'Pakistan specific Western command' under serious consideration.
Narendra Modi government has given mandate to create 5 military theatre commands to India’s Chief of Defence Staff Gen Bipin Rawat like of the US, Russia and China.

The Northern command will remit from Karakoram Pass in Ladakh and continue up to the last outpost Kibithu in Arunachal Pradesh with guarding area up to 3,488 kilometres of Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China with HQ could be in Lucknow.

The 2nd command is Western command remit will be from Indira Col on Saltoro Ridge in the Siachen Glacier region to the tip of Gujarat with its HQ likely in Jaipur.

The Third Command is for complete Peninsular Region which is called a Peninsular command likely HQ Thiruvananthapuram.
Fourth Command a full-fledged air defence command the role of air defence command will be defending Indian airspace through multi-role fighters and with all anti-aircraft missile system along with spearhead the country's aerial attack.

The Fifth, a maritime command by merging the present tri-service Andaman and Nicobar Islands Command likely HQ Andhra Pradesh's New Capital.

The Role of maritime command is to protect the Indian Ocean and India’s Island territories as well as keep the sea lanes free and open from any outside pressure

As senior officials, the five commands will be headed by Lt General or equivalent rank commanders, who will be the first among equals with the heads of the present commands reporting to them.

Once theatre command comes into act all the task of Chief of Staff of Army, Chief of Air Staff and Chief of Naval Staff will not be operational but involve mobilising resources to the theatre commanders.

Theaterisation refers to placing units of the army, air force, and navy under a single Theatre Commander.

At present Indian Army, Navy and Airforce operate separately in different communication frequency. But once theatre command is established then army, navy and airforce will be working together in their respective commands. At present Air Force base and Army base are very near to each other despite this fact duplicate of resource and manpower is wasteful expenditure which can be managed after the theatre command.
