DRDO celebrates the festival in its own way this time it has tested indigenously developed QRSAM (Quick Reaction Surface-to-Air Missile) and hits on a pilotless target plane at a medium-range, altitude on Friday.
The launch was conducted in
Chandipur integrated test range, off the coast of Odisha at around 3:30 Pm.
QRSAM also achieved a direct hit on Banshee drone which was target aircraft for
QRSAM. During test it was found that the radar had detected aircraft at very
farthest and lunched itself when aircraft came to its kill zone.
QRSAM has been manufactured through public sector undertakings — Bharat Electronics Ltd, Bharat Dynamics Ltd, and private player L&T. DRDO stated that the missile system is fully indigenously designed with active radio frequency seekers, electro-mechanical actuation systems sourced from various industries.
The new QRSAM is using modern missile techniques such as storing a missile in a canister-based system, which can be transported to places field places near to forward troops. This gives the upper hand while transporting as well as and the Azerbaijanincrease in the life span of the missile.
In the recent war between Armenia and Azerbaijan, the use of drones in region was found. Which gave an upper hand in a win for Azerbaijan, which was supported for a drone from Turkey. Keeping this in mind India thought if in future war happens between India and Pakistan then Pak may take help from Turkey for drone system. To counter this India needed a missile defence system which can provide a protective shield to moving armoured columns of the Army from enemy aerial attacks.
